Mrs. Diane and Mr. Jim's Anniversary Surprise

Last night we helped surprise Brynn's teacher who was celebrating her 53rd anniversary.  It was one of the sweetest and most precious things and one of those moments that just sticks with you.

We've known Mrs. Diane for a long time from church, but I've gotten to know her a lot better this year as I've worked with her at our church preschool and she is one of Brynn's teachers.  Last summer she had to make the very difficult decision to put her husband in the Veteran's Home.  He has been suffering from a form of dementia for awhile.  (Mrs. Diane taught at Footprints for a long time several years ago, but stopped teaching to help care for her husband).  Well this summer right after Mr. Jim had to move into the Veteran's Home, Mrs. Diane said she prayed that God would help her find a purpose...she knew she'd be lonely with him being gone, and that day our church called her and asked her if she'd be interested in teaching again.  She said it was such an answer to prayer...she gets to see Mr. Jim before and after school, but her day is filled with little kiddos running around!

Yesterday was her 53rd wedding anniversary, so the girls at work decided to plan a special surprise anniversary.  We got permission from the Veteran's Home, and brought in flowers, her favorite food, and pictures of her and Mr. Jim and set up the board room at the home.  Then the nurses wheeled Mr. Jim in and when Mrs. Diane got there to visit him, they got her down to the board room and Mr. Jim was waiting there with the room all set up.  It was the most precious thing.  I know he doesn't know everything that was going on, and she kept reminding him that 53 years ago they got married, but he was happy and smiling and it was just precious.  It really makes you treasure the time we have now because you just never know what will happen in life.

He LOVED seeing Emory and I think it made him so happy to get to hold her and see the girls.

Ryan works a couple hours a week helping do physical therapy at the Veteran's Home and works with Mr. Jim too, so it was cool that he was able to go with us.  (Oh, and of course Brynn was getting ready to go to gymnastics, which is why she has that cool outfit on!  HA!)

We love you Mrs. Diane and are so blessed by your example!  HAPPY 53!
