This past Saturday it was MY turn to compete! I feel like I haven't run in anything competitive since before I had kids...so it was nice to get out and have Brynn cheer ME on for a change! HA!
Remember back after Emory was born, I decided to sign up for the Nashville half-marathon...well it's coming up at the end of April. I'm "loosely" following a 12-week half-marathon training guide, and on this particular weekend I was supposed to run a 10K. I found a flyer at the gym about a 10K sponsored by my high school so I figured I'd sign up. There weren't very many people doing the 10K...I kept telling Ryan I just didn't want to get last place! The 10K people had to line up on a different part of the track to start instead of where the 5K did...and my hubby snapped a few pictures.
The 10K people just had to run the 5K course twice, and it was all near the high school so Ryan and Brynn were able to drive around and see me a lot, which was cool! It helped getting to see them and Brynn would wave at me and cheer. (It turned out really cold that day...like in the 30s during the race, so my mom watched Emory for us during the race...thanks Mom!)
Ryan took some pictures out of the window of his truck... |
There was a lady in front of me the whole race...I didn't think I could catch her, but when the race ended on the track, something kicked in and I was determined to relive the glory days of high school track...HA!
For the record, we were not the last two people in the race! HA! |
There were only three girls in my age group and since they finished first and second overall in the 10K, that meant I finished LAST in my age group...AWESOME! HA! But I still got a little medal, so Brynn thought that was so cool. Actually, I felt really good throughout the race and it made me feel like I can actually do this half-marathon in a couple of weeks. WOOHOO!
