Messy Morning

Saturday morning we headed to the Show-Me Center for an event called "Messy Morning."  I think it coincides with the national "week of the young child"...we had never been before and our Parents as Teachers lady (who we go to church with) encouraged us to try it out.  There are booths by everyone from the Public Library to the local gyms, to day-care centers, Parents as Teachers, restaurants, and the conservation department.  They all have fun and crazy activities for the kids to enjoy.  We ran in to lots of people we knew, and we had a REALLY fun time, even though it was a little chaotic!  HA!

The library booth had a "sticky wall"...we ran in to the lady who teaches Brynn's storytime.

She liked the sandbox...

She thought cutting and scraping bars of soap was really fun...

and she LOVED pouring the rice (although I think she poured more on the floor than anywhere else!)

but her FAVORITE by FAR were these liquid ball things...she called them bubbles and they look
like marbles, but they are slimy and squishy!

Probably the funniest part of the morning was when she saw all these kids throwing confetti in the air..she jumped right in and started throwing it all over herself...I thought she might be a little timid, but NO...

She would throw it up and watch it fall down on herself...

She started smashing it on her hair...
I guess she noticed that everyone was covered in it and she wanted to be covered too?

Then she got in the TUB with it!  HAHA!

For the rest of the morning, she had confetti all over her (and of course so did most of the people there!)  It was in her jacket, down her pants, etc.  =)

She really liked this colored spaghetti...and of course she still has tons of confetti in her hair!
When we got there it was really crowded and I was thinking "I don't know about this.." but it turned out to be GREAT!  I think we will definitely hit it up again next year.  =)

He is RISEN...He is RISEN indeed! HAPPY EASTER SUNDAY!

Easter Sunday was a WONDERFUL day filled with celebrating our Risen Savior!  We had a busy, fun-filled day celebrating with our family, and it started with showing Brynn a couple of Easter gifts, and then heading to a FANTASTIC church service.

Modesty is clearly not a strong suit in our family...
We got Brynn a princess nightgown and a stuffed Snow White from the Disney store when we were in Dallas...she FOUND THEM a week early, but we told her they were an Easter present and we would get them out on Easter morning.  I can't believe she is already finding her presents...clearly we need better hiding spots!  AHHH!

She has worn her princess nightgown for every nap and night since Easter!  She LOVES LOVES LOVES it!  After church we headed to my mom's house for a quick lunch and our annual Easter egg hunt.  First, we had to take a family Easter pic.  Ryan obliged me and we wore coordinating colors this year...LOVE IT!

See a little baby bump in there?

After lunch we got a few Easter goodies from my parents, and Brynn wanted to show them her princess nightgown so we put it on her for the egg hunt...HA!

This Sesame Street sticker book has been a BIG HIT...thanks Easter Bunny!
It had rained a little during church, so it was pretty wet outside...but the weather was so nice.  We decided to roll up our pants (or Ryan and I did...I also borrowed some of Curt's tennis shoes...this egg hunt GETS SERIOUS!) and have the egg hunt outside.

Yes, I know we (and by we I mean me and Ryan) look a little goofy, but these eggs have money involved!

Me, Ryan, Lindsey, and Curt were running around the backyard like maniacs looking for eggs, and my parents neighbors were watching us from the back.  I'm sure they thought we were complete idiots...a bunch of 20 year old's (or in Ryan's case a 30 year old!) running around looking for pink plastic Easter eggs...when I found one right by them I told them there was money hidden inside so they wouldn't think we were SUPER dorky!  HAHA!  But seriously...you know I'm competitive anyway...but when there are $5 bills hiding in some of the eggs, I have to go all out..we all did!

Our audience...

Somehow Curt walking with Brynn turned in to everyone holding hands...HAHA!
We headed home and put Brynn down for a nap.  Then I rode with my mom and sister and Curt to go to my grandma's for Easter.  We went early to visit and play cards.  Ryan took a nap and then he and my dad (who had gone to visit his mom) got Brynn up and drove to Oran a little later.

Playing cards is a BIG family tradition.  We had so much fun...my grandpa and I were on a team and we WON!

Then we had a DELICIOUS supper...I just love eating all the foods I've grown up eating at family holidays...do you guys have special things you always eat?  We do, and I LOVE IT!  I'm also VERY partial to my mom's side of the family's deviled eggs...NOBODY makes them that good!  HA!

BIG GIRL...
Then we headed outside for some FUN!  Kelly brought some Easter eggs and Brynn and Camden ran around my grandparents backyard looking for them.

And then the real fun began...my grandparents live in a TINY little town, and the popular thing there is to drive around in a golf cart?? My grandparents got one a while ago, so we all got to take turns riding around in it.

Me, Brynn, and my grandpa had a fun little ride..watch out Oran, here we come!

My mom had never driven a golf cart before so she let Brynn drive it for her...HA!

In all seriousness...we took this thing around the block about a million times.
Evidently Camden is really good at driving golf carts!
Then it was time to head home...Lindsey and Curt had to drive back to Nashville that night so we all said good-bye to them, and Linz got some loving from Brynn!

Praying that you know the true meaning of Easter and had a wonderful day celebrating our Risen Savior!

Potty Training - Week 1

This is going to super boring, so I'm warning you now.  There are no pictures...just me wanting to remember how potty training started and how it is going.  The words pee-pee and poo-poo are going to be used a million times, and it's long...you may want to skip this now!

I have been debating FOREVER on when to start potty training.  I am definitely in the camp of "don't start till your child is ready", but for Brynn that seemed pretty early.  Our pediatrician said to NOT even think about starting until they are two, so when Brynn started showing interest three months (or more) earlier than that, we decided to buy a little potty and let her "be interested" but never took the plunge with like "okay, we are trying to ONLY go in the potty."  She went in her diaper all the time, and when she felt like sitting on the potty (three or four times a day) we would go in there with her and encourage her to pee or poo-poo, which she did really well.

Fast forward to her two-year well visit, and I asked our doctor about potty training.  He kept saying "don't start until they are ready" and I kept saying "I think she is ready, but HOW DO YOU KNOW???"  HA!  For awhile I kept wondering like "am I doing her a dis-service by not letting her try to start?"  He said, oh you will know...she will want to sit on the potty, she will go pee in the potty, etc."  I thought "okay, we've been doing that for awhile, let's just take the plunge.  If it goes terribly, we can always wait another couple of months and try again."

SO...last Thursday we decided to try it.  We bought a package of princess panties and a bag of pink princess pull-ups.  I initially thought we wouldn't try to use the pull-ups much, because I thought she would THINK they were diapers and she would think she should potty in them, but that wasn't the case.  So...if we are home she usually wears panties, but if we go out I feel a lot better with her in pull-ups.  I also am not even worrying about naps or night.  I always put her in a diaper for those.  The first couple of days I used a pull-up for nap and then realized...why waste a pull-up when I KNOW she will probably pee in it.  (Those things aren't cheap!)

Thursday (day 1) we went to the gym, to the grocery store, and she even went to Nonna's for half the day while I subbed and she had NO ACCIDENTS!  Then we went to Pam and Rick's to visit with Ryan's brother Kyle (who was home for Easter) and we were telling them how she hadn't had any accidents, etc. and five minutes later she was being silly with Kyle and he comes out and says "uh, sorry guys, first accident!  HAHA!  She wasn't wearing a pull-up, which was when I quickly decided if we weren't at our house, she was wearing a pull-up!

The first six days, she's had one accident each day, and every single time except once it has been after 6:30...go figure.  I'd think "oh my gosh, she hasn't had an accident today, and 20 minutes later we'd forget to have her go to the potty and she'd have one.  Oh well...I'm thinking that isn't too bad.

On Tuesday (so day five??) she had been at home all day, so she was wearing princess panties.  We decided to run to Lowe's after supper and didn't change her into a pull-up.  When we got there we had her go potty at Lowe's, which she did fine.  (But of course she only lets Mommy take her...I REALLY wish she would let Daddy take her a few times.)  Then we were looking at the section with the sinks, bathtubs, toilets, etc.  Brynn points at the potty and says "potty, poo poo!"  We were like "yep, you go poo poo and pee pee in those!"  I can't remember if she said poo poo anymore, but we were like "what does that mean?  Does she need to go poo poo?"  We decided she was just talking about the potty, but five minutes later we realized we were WRONG...and she had poo poo'ed in her panties IN LOWE'S.  Ryan had to run out to get her backpack with new pull-ups, I had to take her in the bathroom, take her shoes and pants off, take off a poopy pair of panties (gross)...clean them off in the sink (to which my friend Jennilee said "why didn't you just throw them away!"  I never even thought of that!  But since those panties were like $10 for a little pack, I didn't want to pitch them!  HA!  Luckily, it wasn't a ton of poop and it hadn't gone through to her pants, but it was still NOT FUN!

Another note - I'm not a germaphobe by any means, but potty training your child in public places might make me one.  The little "feminine products trash can" is ALWAYS perfectly in her reach when she's sitting on the toilet and she thinks it's the most fun toy...GROSS!  I also hate having to kneel on the floor in public restrooms...oh well...all in the name of helping my child become more independent I guess.  =)

Yesterday, Thursday, one week after we started...Brynn had her very first accident-free day.  Considering we went to the gym, the library, Panera, and outside for a walk, I was pretty surprised.  I think the main thing that's helping is that we remind her to go every 45 minutes or so.  I feel like I'm always looking at my watch and trying to remember the last time she went.  Several times she has just run into our bathroom, pulled down her pants, and gone in her little potty, but most of the time she goes when we say "ooo...let's go potty!"  And I almost always go on the big potty while she goes on hers.  I seriously felt like I've lived on the toilet for the last week!  HA!

All in all, it hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought (I'm thinking that if I type that, the next week is going to be terrible!  HA!)  There have been a few times when she hasn't wanted me to wipe her or she doesn't want to sit, and I'm starting to realize that sometimes she just knows she doesn't have to go, and I shouldn't force her to sit.  But other than those few times, it has been pretty smooth.

OH, POTTY TRAINING...WHAT A BLAST...

Bandermann Easter

On the Saturday before Easter we headed to Ryan's parents house because they were hosting Easter for the "Hawn" side of the family (which means Ryan's grandma, his mom and all of us, his Aunt Kim and her clan, and his Aunt Soni and her kids).  Altogether there were like 25 or 30 of us!  We started with an Easter egg hunt for all the little kids, and then had a DELICIOUS supper, and then just hung out and watched the kids and some basketball.  It was a fun evening of being with family!

Ansley and Brynn finding some eggs...

Brynn wanted to stop and open every egg she found because she just knew there would be "can-ee" hiding inside.  I kept trying to encourage her to go around and find some more eggs because they were going fast!

She definitely has a SWEET TOOTH!

Sweet cousin Charli!

Ryan's Aunt Soni is SUPER GENEROUS...she had filled some eggs with a NICE amount of money and passed them out to all the little kids.  It's kind of the family joke that Aunt Soni has filled up half these kids college accounts with her birthday and holiday gifts...except that it's really not a joke!  =) Thank you Aunt Soni and Uncle Val!

After supper Brynn and Ansley were having lots of fun putting on a show for everyone...Ansley was trying to tell the Easter story (although it came out more like the Christmas story, which was adorable!), Brynn was trying to sing and dance and attempt to "read" a book...which sounded like she was speaking in tongues!  We were all CRACKING UP!  Fun memories!

These two are not short on personality...clearly!

Then Aunt Kim had her grandson Brooks come over to get in on the singing...they attempted
a rendition of Jesus Loves Me but I don't think they made it very far! HA!

Then the reading of the Easter story...HILARIOUS!  In all seriousness...we have been reading Brynn some books about the true meaning of Easter, and pray that one day she will come to truly understand what it is all about!  We serve a RISEN SAVIOR!  Thank you God for the incredible gift of sending your Son to die for us and SAVE US!  HAPPY EASTER!
