Emory's 2-Week Check-Up

This past Friday I took Emory for her two week check-up.  With Brynn, Dr. Hoffman saw us in the hospital so we didn't see him until she was two weeks old.  Now, a hospitalist sees the babies in the hospitals, and we had to go when she was about three days old.  Then we had to make another appointment for two weeks.

Emory weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. when she was born, and was at 6 lbs. 15 oz. when we left the hospital.  At the three day appointment she was back up to 7 lbs. 3 oz.  They wanted her to regain her birth weight by the two week appointment.  She weighed 8 lbs. even at the check-up, YAY!

Here are the stats from her visit -

Weight - 8 lbs. - 41%
Height - 21.5 inches - 91% (up from 19.5 inches at birth...I asked him "is that even possible to grow two inches in two weeks?  He said yes??)
Head Circumference - 54%

All ready to get checked out...this was from her three day appointment.
Two week check-up - Poor thing was starving and they were trying to get her check-up in really quick!
I knew she would be ready to nurse just about the time we had her appointment, but they acted like they would be in and out super quick, so if we could just hold her off for a second they wanted to try to get her in and done.  They are usually really quick, but of course this time it seemed like it took forever.  Thankfully, she took this little paci and just sucked like a champ while he was checking her!

Some special notes from the appointment -

  • So she has this bright read mark on her right arm (about the size of a pencil eraser).  He said it's probably a strawberry angioma and will grow until maybe six months.  At that point it will probably stop growing, but will be a permanent birthmark.  He said when she gets a lot older she may want to have it removed!  HA!
  • Her eyelids are still pretty red, and he said that was a birthmark too!  Except he said those should fade by the time she's about twelve months.
  • He said she could start taking a bottle...anywhere from about two to four a week.  YAY!  I love nursing her, but it is SO NICE knowing I can be gone for a feeding.  (She's had two bottles since then and she has done really well!  Praise the Lord!)
  • He said we can let her go at night and don't have to wake her to nurse...yay!  I've been nursing about ten at night, and she's in bed by around 11.  She's been sleeping until about three, and then nursing again.  Then we've been waking her around 7 to start the day.  KEEP IT UP EMORY!
  • He put special medicine in her little belly button to help it dry up...the cord fell off really early, but it was still kind of oozing.
  • She sees him again at two months, and he said by then she should be smiling, cooing, and tracking with her eyes.  I can't wait to see those pretty smiles!

A Visit From Lindsey and Curt

This past weekend my sister and her husband Curt were able to come to town to see Emory!!  Lindsey had to work last weekend when Emory was born, and we figured it would be pointless for her to drive all the way here for just the Sunday we were in the hospital because she would be here for less than 24 hours.  It worked out so much better for them to come in this past weekend because we were able to see them and hang out so much more!  I pretty much stole all these pictures from her blog because I didn't have my camera with me at all.

Curt had seriously just said "Brynn do you want to be my girlfriend?"
And this is what she did!
Eating M & M's and being silly!
And on a random "M & M" note...somebody who will remain nameless (cough cough MY MOM) keeps lots of candy in her house.  I think the first words out of Brynn's mouth all weekend when we went to my parents was "Can I have candy please?"  HA!

We played downstairs with all our old dance recital costumes and Brynn was getting in to it.  I don't think we took a picture of this black outfit but she seriously wore it all afternoon at my mom's and even wore it for her nap!  HA!

Ping-Pong is always a big thing at my parents house...Lindsey and Curt are pretty competitive, but they took some time out to attempt to teach Brynn how to hit it.  I think she hit it with her body parts more than the racket, but it was so fun to watch!

One of the best parts of the weekend was when the girls got to enjoy the AMAZING fall weather and take a walk.  I had just finished nursing and Emory was down for a nap.  Ryan and Curt kept an eye on Emory and the "big girls" drove to Touchdown Estates (where our lot is) and parked the car and walked around.  It was (as my mom would say) GLORIOUS!

Sunday afternoon we went back over to my parents for lunch...the weather was AWESOME again and we enjoyed eating outside and playing in their backyard.  It has been so hard having to stay cooped up these past several days because Emory isn't supposed to be out for about two weeks and it has coincided with some of the most amazing weather ever!  So we had that monitor on and were ALL outside enjoying the beautiful fall sunshine!

With Emory here, we have been trying to give Brynn LOTS of attention (and truthfully with a newborn who sleeps most of the day, it hasn't been too hard to do that).  But this weekend she was pretty spoiled with her sweet aunt and uncle who got to spend lots of time with her!  I am so glad they were able to come visit and for us all to hang out!

And really random...but since this post is about this weekend I guess I'll write it here.  I know this is going to sound funny (or lame to some of you!  HA!) but one of the most fun things we've done over the last few days is take drives.  HA!  I seriously think we will look back on this time and smile over these precious little memories.  Like I said, the weather has been AMAZING and since we aren't really supposed to get Emory out (you better believe as soon as the pediatrician gives the green light we are going to be taking multiple walks a day! HA!) we've been taking family drives so we can get out.  If Emory is sleeping in her crib we just scoop her out and pop her in the car seat.  We put a movie on for Brynn and head out.  We've gone through the drive through and all eaten while we drive around and look at houses or eaten snacks in the car and just visited.  Oh the life of having a newborn...gotta love it!

Doc McBrynn

The DOC is in!  (That's a quote from the show if you aren't into Disney channel right now!  HA!)  Have you guys watched Doc McStuffins?  It is the cutest show and Brynn really likes it right now.  So this past Friday after Emory's newborn photo shoot we took Brynn to Target to pick out a special Doc McStuffins toy.  (We aren't huge "let's buy our child a present for no reason" people, but she was SO GOOD during the entire photo shoot.  And even though we spent over an hour pretty much JUST focused on Emory, Brynn was so sweet trying to help and trying to pose for a "sister" picture.  We were really proud and just felt like spoiling her!  HA!)  She picked out a Doc medical kit and has been having so much fun playing "doctor" to all of us and to her toys!

We might have a little doctor or nurse on our hands!

Phone Dump

I feel like I have so many pictures floating around and I'm trying to get caught up on blogging...I don't want to leave any pictures out!  HA!  So here are a bunch of random pictures from my phone...get ready for a HUGE hodge-podge!

Brynn and Emory look SO SIMILAR as newborns...it is pretty uncanny!
We were looking on Ryan's phone and here is a picture of Brynn as a newbie and then Emory.
in the hospital.  Pretty similar!

At the hospital my husband surprised me with this really cute necklace!
It is one of those Origami Owl necklaces where you pick different charms to put inside the locket.
There is a ring to stand for me and Ryan, two girls with their birthstones inside, and a cross
to symbolize the foundation we want to build our life on.  LOVE IT!

Emory gets lots of love!

Someone isn't a big fan of bath-time...HA!

While Emory was inside sleeping we brought the monitor outside and played...we have pear trees in the backyard and the pears have all fallen off and are rotting on the grass, which has attracted a ton of bees.  Ryan was going around smashing them with a shovel...HA!  Then he and Brynn got a little creative with the shovel (now that I think about it, I bet it had bee guts all over it...nice).

I just LOVE THIS GUY SO MUCH!  When both girls were in bed we were enjoying watching some football on TV.

We had a little newborn photo shoot and got a couple really cute pictures!  Here is a behind the scenes look.

Life has been very different over the last couple of weeks, but we wouldn't trade it for anything!

First Week Home - Some Random Pics

We have officially been parents of TWO GIRLS for about a week now.  The first week Ryan took off from work, which was awesome.  We are trying to get into somewhat of a routine and adjust to our new normal.  Here are some random pictures we captured from last week. =)

Brynn has been AWESOME!  I know there will be times where she gets jealous or needs more attention, but I am really impressed with how well she's handled things so far.  She loves to love on Emory and will help hand me things if I need it.  She has been our little ROCK STAR!  It's also been crazy how much older she seems this week.  In a matter of days she went from being our little two year old to seeming like she's five or six!  HA!

My grandparents stopped by on their way to a doctor's appointment the other day and were able to get in some snuggles with the girls!

Ryan's Aunt Kim wasn't able to come by the hospital, so she stopped by this past week as well.  She got to get in some fun snuggles as well.  =)

Emory's only had a couple of little baths, and has NOT been a fan.  But Brynn has still enjoyed helping.  She will say "It's okay guys...she a baby, she can cry."  HA!

So thankful for our two precious girls!
